THE BEAUTIFUL HIMALAYAN

No other cat in history has captured the admiration of cat lovers the way the Himalayan has. Siamese in color, Persian in type and combining the best qualities of both breeds into one magnificent creature.

Since the 1950’s the Himalayan cat began to come more and more into the public eye. The public also had to be educated onto just what a Himalayan cat is. The Himalayan is NOT a longhair Siamese. A Himalayan cat is a Persian cat with the color pattern of the Siamese cat. Simple crosses do not make a breed. It took years of selective breeding between Siamese and Persian cats to finally produce a Himalayan.

Himalayan, Pointed Pattern Persian, or Colorpoint Longhair or Himmy as it is affectionately known. What you call the breed depends on personal choice or registry membership, but, whatever the name, the fact remains that you own a startlingly beautiful and colorful longhaired cat.

The Himalayan has been recognized as a distinct breed for only a relatively short time.

In the U.S.A. the Himalayan was given separate breed status from the Persian. However, in 1984 the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA), America’s largest cat registry, determined that the Himalayan would no longer be regarded as a breed apart from the Persian, rather as a variety of it. It is classified as the Pointed Pattern Persian.

The Himalayan is physically constructed like the Persian cat and carries the same passive and affectionate personality – truly a cat that fits in with all lifestyles.
